We’re celebrating 100 Episodes of The Soul Amplified Podcast!  We have to have a party, so to join in on the fun visit this link to register for the zoom event https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0kd-yspjMpHdegWlreSkBUS6uZrEPeZEnS

The 100th Episode Celebration is happening Thursday, January 7th at 10 am PST.  Bring a cupcake or a treat, and be ready to have a good time!

As part of being 100 episodes in, let’s go back to the basics that make up codependency.

At its root, codependency is a reaction to your environment.  A survival tool to help you deal with others who aren’t functioning optimally.  They aren’t dealing with their own problems, are causing more and aren’t solving them.  If you were raised in this environment, your patterns to survive such situations become part of your adult survival kit, too.

Codependency has many elements, which in our society are known by other names, such as:

  • People pleaser
  • Enabler
  • Super helper
  • Taking on people as ‘projects’
  • Being a ‘yes-woman’
  • Ignoring your own needs
  • ‘Shoulding’ on yourself (I should do….I should be…)

The effects of codependency in your life can also be vast and deep.

  • Worry/Anxiety
  • Over focus on others
  • Neglecting yourself
  • Upset when others don’t help as much as you
  • Feeling guilt/shame/embarrassment for other’s behavior as if it reflected on you
  • Anticipating others needs
  • Depression
  • Controlling others
  • Perfectionistic
  • Trying to fit in

I’m glad to bring together some of the main elements of codependency, as I see them, in this one episode.  It’s a great episode to send friends to who are just starting their learning journey about codependency, and one you can return to when you are needing a refresher.
